*** PLEASE CIRCULATE FOR ENDORSEMENTS***
WHEREAS, a system wide walk out for the entire University of California system on September 24th has been endorsed by: - The American Association of University Professors (AAUP)
- UPTE, representing 12,000 University Professional and Technical Employees
- UCB Student/Worker Solidarity Alliance
- Graduate Student Organizing Committee at UCB
WHEREAS, increased solidarity is necessary because no individual group is strong enough to decisively affect the campus energy; and
NOW, THEREFORE, INSERT YOUR ORGANIZATION HERE will not only endorse but also spend the next two weeks to energetically and systematically promote a call for solidarity rally and speak out at SF State on September 24th from noon – 2 pm.
Notes:
- This speak out should be promoted explicitly as a “Solidarity Committee” for the purpose of a united front.
- Everyone is free to make their own demands, produce their own publicity, say what ever they want, the program will be open mic, rotating between different groups, departments, unions, students, teachers, etc. Facilitators are welcome to volunteer their skills to ensure this assembly has an open discussion.
- The International Socialist Organization discussed three suggested demands for this speak out. These are just suggestions, and we don’t want them to prevent an endorsement of this speak out. United action in building for a speak out is our priority:
- Tax the rich and California corporations! Tax oil to directly fund education NOT create another corporation!
- Open the Books! Pass an accountability and transparency act!
- Defend Ethnic Studies! Restore funding to the Ethnic Studies Student Resource and Empowerment Center!
- Freedom School @ SFSU suggests that people join the Experimental ****** to build community on campus and connect the campus to the community.
“Solidarity Committee” endorsements as of September 12, 2009:
- International Socialist Organization
- Student Unity and Power
- Freedom School @ SFSU
- College of BSS Students of Color
- Socialist Organizer
- INSERT YOUR OWN ORGANIZATION
