Recent months have seen a resurgence of racist attacks and red-baiting, of hateful rhetoric and Fox News fear mongering. As the effects of the economic crisis spread, and issues like health care enter the public debate, the organized right wing has succeeded in mobilizing its base and seizing initiative. SOUL invites you to a discussion on the current wave of US-based right-wing populism and the fight against it. Join Carl Bloice & Paola Bacchetta for a look at right wing movements past and present, and a discussion on the possibilities for confronting them and advancing a truly progressive political agenda.
Carl Bloice is a San Francisco-based writer, former heath care union staffer, and member of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy & Socialism. He is an Editorial Board member of the Black Commentator magazine.
Paola Bacchetta is a professor of Gender and Women's Studies and on the Advisory Board for the Center for the Study of Comparative Right-Wing Movements at UC Berkeley. She has researched and written extensively on right-wing movements in the US, France, and India.
Light refreshments will be provided. For more information and to RSVP, please contact info@
